Personal thanks from Greenpeace

Kia ora Peter

This is the time of year when we all like to think about how we’re doing. It’s a precious moment for reflection and planning before we plunge headlong into the year.

As we do that here at Greenpeace, I would like to take this moment to say thank you. Especially to you.

Because, with your regular donation you defend our planet against exploitation. You protect ancient forests, the last wildernesses and vulnerable oceans.

But your donation also means there is hope.

The climate talks in Paris at the end of last year signalled the end of the fossil fuel era. And that too is an important sign of hope. But we know from experience that turning those fine words into real action requires people power. The future sits in the balance – will the Paris climate agreement be just a piece of paper? Or will the people of the world force government and business to turn it into real climate action?

That’s where you and I and all of the global Greenpeace community come in.

All of us who give to, work for or volunteer with Greenpeace have something in common. We agree that we can stop fossil fuel dependency and environmental exploitation. And there are lots of us – nearly 3 million! We’re a force to be reckoned with.

Thank you so much Peter, for including yourself in that number. It means we can hope. It means we can win.

We will be in touch soon and throughout this year about how you can take action.

Kia kaha. 2016 is going to be a great year.
